Dearest Substack Pals,
Today my new show Too Much- created with my husband Luis “Attawalpa” Felber- is in the world. I could go on and on about the profound healing effect that making this had on me, but instead I’ll allow you to jump to your own conclusions and experience your own emotions (if you’re in the mood to watch! No presh!)
I do want to share the names of some books that inspired me while making Too Much. Each was a little jewel that reminded me why we write, what it costs us and also what it repays.
Abandon Me by Melissa Febos
In The Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado
Autumn In The Pain House by John Doe
Bleaker House by Nell Stevens
Angus Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging by Louise Rennison
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte (as read by Thandiwe Newton)
Really Good, Actually by Monica Heisey
Character Breakdown by Zawe Ashton
The Country Girls Edna O’Brien
All of these are wise, worthy, weird and perfectly imperfect- like every woman I love, every person who inspires me and inspires me to write. I feel lucky to do this job, lucky to have found this sweet Substack community of readers and writers, and very grateful.
Sincerely,
Lena
