I recently had an epiphany that my style feels eerily similar to the heroine from my favorite childhood book series Trixie Belden. She lives on a farm in the Hudson Valley, solves mysteries, and rides horses. Maybe I will just become her entirely?
OK, I loved Trixie Beldon. I love that they got to go everywhere by themselves that their nanny governess woman what was her name ? was like yes let’s go find Jim, you girls take the horses. And I’ll be right here. Her friend’s name was Honey. She was really delicate and blonde. I definitely related to Trixie. Those books were everything to my childhood.
This was the perfect marriage of literature and style and an ideal summer Friday read. Thank you for the effort you put into this! (As for me, I'm still always looking for the correct puff of a sleeve thanks to Anne of Green Gables. And I dream of looking like Linda Radlett, crying in the train station with no money, when she's discovered by Fabrice. As a result, there's a lot of old tweed in my closet.)
Lenaaaa I haven't even read this and I know I'm going to need an hour to enjoy and sit and think. This is my reward for getting up and putting away laundry. Today YOU are the carrot (there is no stick) at the end of my task. Thank you madame! XOXO from sunny Chicago.
I MIGHT DIE NOW THAT YOU HAVE REPLIED. I AM 10 YEARS OLDER THAN YOU AND YOU ARE MY MENTOR. I devour everything you write and think. I love you not in a parasocial way, but a you were my inspiring-big-sister-in-another-timeline way. Your intellectual courage and shit-my-pants sense of humor could keep me alive in a post-apocalyptic world (this one?) because it puts me in touch with my own. THANK YOU.
Watch me morph into a new character every TV series I watch (my partner can attest): an Elaine in my Seinfeld era, a Meadow Soprano during The Sopranos, a Jessa during Girls?? But honestly, this is why getting dressed every day is exciting and fun and an experiment of creative play. Obsessed.
Yo I thought this was dope. Such a great job by you. I got your book it’s coming on Amazon I’m gonna have to get a picture with me with the book and get it to you. Maybe I can attach it to a message or comment. Just want to let you know I’m supporting you and your stuff. Wow I’ve had so many styles through the years. Being a L.A. kid from West L.A. 90’s Flat top had the T shirt back in the day like 94 they had the looney tune tshirts you get them extra baggy and it would have like Bugs Bunny dressed as a hip hoper with a backwards baseball cap. Wearing back wards wear. They had that for all the looney tune characters. 91 -92 I was definitely wearing a lot of buggle boy. L.A. gear sneakers that would light up in the back. 93-94 I was wearing a lot of cross colors. Overalls with one unbotened at the top. As I got older 97 Michael Jordan patten leather shoes. Thanks Mom.
High school it was about Sean John Enyce Phat Farm Ecko basketball jerseys Timbaland Boots. Senior year around “03” and all my high school styles were like 99”-03” I wore Billabong O’Neal Fresh Jive Board shorts
College much of the same Jerseys sneakers more button downs mid 2000s there was an Argyle faze and some suits.
Now whatever Express I want to wear lol. But probably just a plain T-shirt and the blazer and slacks. I’ve upped my sneaker style to Versace. And Armani and Armani leather jackets.
Thank you for sharing with us. I must say I like all your styles through the years. And you set the trend.
The photo of you in bed with that AMAZING floral print headboard sparked a wardrobe memory for me, and though Gemma (my name for Gemini AI) could not give me a photo of the sweatshirt it reminded me of, she did give me the search terms that brought it right up! I can’t attach a photo here, but if you’re curious, google: Forenza floral print fleece sweatshirt and you’ll know which one! The (much nicer than my shirt) pattern on your headboard sent me on a delightful stroll down memory lane! Thanks!
Holy shit! That’s my book! (Body Weather) Thank you so much for sharing it, and I think you nailed the look in which much of it was written (colorful, comfy, in bed or lying on the couch).

Okay ordering these immediately- but then do I need a horse!?
Honestly could be a whole new equestrian cowgirl era

this explains how can I can justify almost any purchase telling myself it’s “research”

Love it when you write about books. More of this please! And how have I not read Shopgirl? In my cart now.
Books and clothes and bits and bobs are my loved - so glad you enjoy
Lena I love this. You inspire me every time. With every thing.
Play it as it Lays style is a true goal. Your style is cool AF.
I wish everyone in it could find peace, but then they wouldn’t be so chic:(
true!
This is the kind of nerdy-fashion content I’m looking for. Excited about future capsules.
Thank you! Nerds love clothes too:)
Yes, we do!

I love this!!! Florals are like going on a very long trip from the comfort of your crooked little position 💐
Thinking about Pookie Adams makes me cry. 😢
We just rewatched the other night and my husband, who I’d say basically rejects films that aren’t in high def, was riveted😭😭😭

I love it so much- life changing
Holy smokes Cathie Smith! What a life.
